With so many schemes available out there such as RUMAWIP, and so on, buying a house is no longer just a dream. After purchasing a property, it is time for renovation. This article will guide you through the tips on saving renovating cost.

  1. Go minimalism
Less is more. Go for a less complicated design. Choose a minimalism approach to save yourself from overspending on renovation costs. You could try a Japanese interior design where the design is usually clean and minimalist. The furniture used are simple yet it creates a clean and comfortable space.

  1. Maximalism might be a good choice too
If your budget allows and you are not fussy with designs, you could always try to mix and match your furniture at home. You could source your furniture from the secondhand warehouse or even eBay to look for some affordable yet beautiful furniture for your house.

  1. No to carpets
Adding carpet to your house will no doubt add some warmth to your house, giving it a homely touch, but it can be quite costly, in terms of cleaining, maintaning and installation. Instead of using carpets, why not choose loose rugs that will also give you some softness under your feet?

  1. Cost effective flooring
Flooring plays an important role when it comes to the comfort of a home and it will take up a large part of your renovation budget. Forget about natural stone, ceramics or designer marbles if you are on a tight budget. Instead, you should opt for vinyl, laminate and tiles that are more cost efficient. Most importantly, the type of flooring in terms of the material is what sets the costs of flooring so high.

  1. Minimal hacking
Wall hacking involves demolishment of walls or other structures in your house. It could be hacking a wall to combine two rooms into one or it could be because you want to build a partition. Do think carefully before you decide whether to go through hacking in your house.

  1. Paint over wallpaper
Wallpaper can be quite costly especially when you need it for the whole house. In order to save on renovation costs, do consider paint instead. Choose a washable paint that can be easily maintained or clean so that it will last longer. It might be slight more expensive than normal paints, but it is definitely cheaper than buying wallpaper.

  1. Custom carpentry
The prices for carpentry work will depend on the type of material you want for your kitchen countertops to study tables to wardrobes and so on. Again, the prices differ according to the design difficulty. Custom cabinets could be a cheaper option if you choose cheaper materials. Go for simple design to save costs on workmanship fees.

In conclusion, renovation costs do not come cheap based on the above points. You could also engage with interior designers to have them give you some ideas on what you can do to your house. If not, you could always visit Pinterest for some DIY ideas as well.
